Bengaluru: The first Vande Bharat Sleeper train service in South India, connecting Bengaluru and Mumbai, will cover around 1,118 km in 16 hours, saving passengers nearly eight hours, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi said.

Speaking at the launch event at Sir M Visvesvaraya Terminal in Bengaluru, Joshi welcomed the introduction of the service, describing it as a significant development in railway connectivity.

He said Karnataka’s annual railway allocation had increased from around Rs 700 crore before 2014 to between Rs 7,000 crore and Rs 8,000 crore. The state has been allocated Rs 7,748 crore for railway development in the 2026-27 financial year, he added.

Joshi said the expansion of Vande Bharat Sleeper services, installation of the Kavach safety system and adoption of modern technology would improve passenger safety and comfort.

Union ministers H D Kumaraswamy and Shobha Karandlaje, MPs P C Mohan, C N Manjunath and Tejasvi Surya, and railway officials attended the event.
