New Delhi: India’s first uncrewed Gaganyaan mission is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2026, while the country’s first human spaceflight is targeted for 2027, the Centre informed Parliament on Wednesday.

In a written reply to the Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Space Jitendra Singh said major development activities for the Gaganyaan mission have been completed, including the human-rated LVM3 launch vehicle, orbital module, crew escape system and critical ground infrastructure. Preparations are also underway for the TV-D2 test mission following the successful completion of the TV-D1 abort test and integrated air-drop tests.

The first uncrewed experimental flight will validate several indigenous technologies, including Vyommitra, ISRO’s half-humanoid robot. Two additional uncrewed missions will precede India’s first crewed spaceflight in 2027.

The government also said the Bharatiya Antariksh Station (BAS) is targeted to become operational by 2035. ISRO has finalised the design of the five-module space station, and the Cabinet has approved the development and launch of its first module, BAS-01.

The Union Cabinet approved a ₹20,193-crore budget in September 2024 for eight space missions under the programme.

ISRO is collaborating with international agencies, including the European Space Agency (ESA), Australian Space Agency (ASA), France’s CNES and Russia’s Roscosmos, for mission support, crew recovery, astronaut training and supply of critical human spaceflight systems, the government said.
