Chamarajanagar: The Christaraja School in Hanur turned into a celebration of love and bonding on Saturday as tiny tots and their grandmothers came together for a special Grandmothers’ Day programme organised for LKG and UKG students.

The event brought alive the warmth of the relationship between grandparents and grandchildren, with children presenting greeting cards they had made themselves and offering roses to their grandmothers. The young students also sought their grandmothers’ blessings by touching their feet.

School manager Fr Sanjay Kumar inaugurated the programme by lighting the traditional lamp. Speaking on the occasion, he said the objective of education was not merely to turn children into “machines focused on marks”, but to nurture them into responsible citizens with progressive thinking and social awareness.

He appreciated the efforts of teachers in encouraging children to discover and develop their creative talents. He also thanked parents and grandmothers for taking time out to participate in the programme and encourage the children.

Grandmothers share childhood memories

Education Coordinator (ECO) Mahesh, the chief guest, expressed concern over children spending excessive time on mobile phone screens and urged them to develop a stronger relationship with books.

Reading, play and recreation were all integral parts of education, he said, stressing the importance of parental guidance for the holistic development of children.

The celebrations continued with dance and music performances by the children and their grandmothers. Some grandmothers also shared memories from their childhood with the students and narrated stories carrying moral lessons.

Pre-university college principal Sister Sheela Mary, headmistresses Pushpa Mary and Sister Jacinta of the Kannada primary school, high school headmaster Subrahmanya, Pushpasagaya, teachers, parents and school staff were present.
