Mangaluru: A one-day environmental awareness programme, ‘Jungle Journey 2026’, was organised in the Kanthavar forest area to encourage young people to take an active role in protecting forests and preserving the environment.

The initiative was jointly organised by the Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM), St. John Paul ICYM Zone, the Karnataka Forest Department, Vana Charitable Trust, CASK Centenary Trust, and MIJARC.

As part of the programme, officials from the Kundapur Division of the Karnataka Forest Department guided participants on the importance of forest conservation. Forest Beat Officer Chandrashekhar highlighted the vital role youth can play in safeguarding natural ecosystems and promoting environmental sustainability.

At the Kanthavar Forest Base Camp, environmental resource person Arun delivered a session on the significance of forests, the challenges they face, and the collective responsibility to protect them for future generations.

A total of 67 youth participated in the programme, taking part in interactive sessions and activities focused on biodiversity, conservation and sustainable environmental practices.

The event was attended by V. Richard D’Souza (ICYM Zonal Director), Ashwin Cardoza (Karnataka Provincial ICYM Secretary), Richal D’Souza and John Winstone (MIJARC Karnataka Coordinators), Jeet Milan (Vana Charitable Trust), and other dignitaries.

Organisers said the initiative was aimed at fostering environmental responsibility among young people and encouraging greater community participation in forest conservation efforts.
