Karnataka bans ‘obscene songs’ in school events, warns of strict action
Bengaluru: The School Education and Literacy Department Karnataka has issued a circular prohibiting students from dancing to “obscene songs” during cultural programmes and anniversaries in schools and colleges across the state.
In the directive, the department said such content could negatively impact students’ mental well-being, lead to indiscipline and affect the dignity of educational institutions.
All government, aided and unaided institutions have been instructed to create awareness among students and strictly prevent such performances. Authorities warned that action would be taken against headmasters and school managements if violations are reported.
The circular also advised teachers to select songs that are inspirational, patriotic and promote moral values, brotherhood and mutual respect.
Officials said the move is aimed at ensuring the holistic development of students while preserving the values and environment of educational institutions.
