Kempegowda’s vision continues to inspire modern India, says Vice-President
Bengaluru: Vice-President C.P. Radhakrishnan on Friday paid tributes to Bengaluru founder Nadaprabhu Kempegowda on his 517th birth anniversary, describing him as a visionary administrator, city builder and social reformer whose ideals remain relevant in contemporary India.
Addressing a commemorative event in Bengaluru, the Vice-President said Kempegowda was not merely a ruler but a leader who governed with a long-term vision for public welfare. He noted that Kempegowda envisioned an inclusive city where people from diverse communities, professions and faiths could live and prosper together.
“Bengaluru’s identity as a ‘Mini Bharat’ is a testament to Kempegowda’s vision,” Radhakrishnan said.
Highlighting Kempegowda’s contributions to urban planning, the Vice-President said the city founder laid the foundations of sustainable development through well-planned markets, neighbourhoods, water systems and public spaces. He noted that Kempegowda’s network of lakes and water channels continues to offer valuable lessons in water conservation and environmental management.

Radhakrishnan also praised Kempegowda’s commitment to social harmony, education and cultural diversity. He said Bengaluru’s emergence as India’s technology and innovation hub rests on the strong foundations laid nearly five centuries ago.
Urging the youth to draw inspiration from Kempegowda’s life, the Vice-President called for greater participation in nation-building and stressed the importance of sustainable development, water conservation and long-term planning in achieving the vision of a developed India.
