KR Market entry fee: Goods vehicles may have to pay up to Rs 350 under 10-year smart gate deal

BENGALURU: Goods vehicles entering the busy KR Market complex in central Bengaluru may soon have to pay an entry fee of up to Rs 350 under a proposed 10-year smart gate contract by the Bengaluru Central City Corporation (BCCC).

Under the proposed fee structure, trucks and goods vehicles with six or more wheels will be charged Rs 350 for a single entry and exit. Four-wheeler light motor vehicles (LMVs) carrying goods will pay Rs 100, while three-wheeler goods vehicles will be charged Rs 75. The service provider will determine the applicable fee based on the vehicle category at the entry point.

In addition to the vehicle entry charge, goods brought into the market will attract a separate fee.

A charge of Rs 5 per bag will be levied on specified commodities, including fruits, flowers, vegetables and leafy greens. The same rate will apply, based on the prescribed unit, to commodities such as groundnut, cotton, sweet corn, ginger, turmeric, banana stem, bamboo, sugarcane, onion, potato, coconut and garlic.

Egg boxes containing up to 10 trays will attract Rs 10 per box. Fish and other seafood will also carry a Rs 10 charge per box, while poultry and other meat products will attract Rs 10 per tray.

Payment mandatory before entry

Under BCCC rules, every goods vehicle entering the market will have to pay the applicable fee before entry, unless specifically exempted in writing by the BBMP/BCCC.

Similarly, vendors, traders, wholesalers, retailers, street vendors, commission agents and transporters bringing goods into the market will have to pay the prescribed charges before carrying out any business activity.

The commodity fee will generally be payable once a day for each consignment or category of goods. Unless otherwise specified, the vehicle-related charge will cover one entry and one exit.
