Bengaluru: The Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) has inaugurated a state-of-the-art LED Sports Floodlighting System at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, replacing the metal-halide lights that had been in use since 2010.
The new floodlighting system delivers over 3,500 lux on the pitch and 2,500 lux across the outfield, meeting international standards and ensuring superior visibility for players, match officials and television audiences.
The project was inaugurated by G. Maheshwar Rao, Chief Commissioner of the Greater Bengaluru Authority, and Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh, in the presence of KSCA President B.K. Venkatesh Prasad and representatives of Havells India Limited, which executed the project.
The advanced LED lighting, integrated with DMX intelligent control technology, supports HD, 4K and super slow-motion broadcasting with flicker-free illumination and high colour accuracy. The system also enables dynamic lighting sequences before and during matches to enhance the fan experience.
Installed at a cost of nearly ₹5 crore, the new floodlights are around 40% more energy-efficient than the previous system, reducing electricity consumption and diesel usage while supporting environmentally sustainable operations.
The upgraded lighting system made its debut during the Bengaluru leg of the DACSS Maharaja Trophy KSCA T20, with the tournament continuing under the new floodlights until the final on July 12.
KSCA said the project further strengthens M. Chinnaswamy Stadium’s status as one of India’s premier cricket venues, equipped with world-class infrastructure for domestic and international matches.
