Bengaluru: A special NIA court has sentenced Mohammed Shareek to 10 years’ rigorous imprisonment in the Mangaluru cooker bomb blast case, delivering a significant verdict on Monday.
The court found Shareek guilty in connection with the blast, bringing closure to a case that had triggered widespread concern over security.
Reacting to the verdict, the Bharatiya Janata Party welcomed the judgment and launched a sharp attack on the ruling Indian National Congress.
In a post on X, the BJP alleged that Congress leaders, including KPCC president D. K. Shivakumar, had earlier downplayed the incident as “diversion politics”.
The party said the court’s verdict had exposed what it termed the “real face” of the Congress, accusing it of prioritising appeasement politics over national security concerns.
The BJP further alleged that the Congress was engaging in vote-bank politics and urged it to refrain from making statements that, according to the party, justify extremist elements.
The case pertains to the cooker bomb blast in Mangaluru, which had raised serious concerns about terror activities in the region.
