Kathmandu: Rescue teams have intensified search operations for 290 Indians among more than 1,400 people reported missing following devastating flash floods along the Nepal-Tibet border. The death toll from the disaster rose to 392 on Thursday, officials said.

Of those killed, 389 were from Nepal, while three deaths were reported in Tibet. Rescue personnel are scouring areas covered by mud, rocks and debris in an effort to locate those still missing or trapped.

Nepal Police said 796 people, including 50 foreign nationals, were rescued by helicopters. Another 796 people were evacuated to safer locations by road. The police have not disclosed the nationalities of the foreign nationals rescued.

Helicopters, drones and ground-based rescue teams continue to operate in the flood-hit areas. Authorities have prioritised locating those missing and intensified searches amid the debris left behind by the floods.

The scale of the disaster has prompted a coordinated rescue and relief effort, with teams working across difficult terrain to reach affected areas.

Nepal Prime Minister Balendra Shah visited the affected regions and directed officials to step up relief measures and clear roads blocked by debris.

Meanwhile, Chinese Premier Li Qiang visited the Gyirong area and reviewed ongoing rescue and relief operations.
