Bengaluru: Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy on Tuesday expressed concern over the recurring quarry accidents in Karnataka, saying repeated tragedies point to a failure to enforce safety regulations and hold those responsible accountable.

Reacting to the stone quarry collapse near Madapatna village in Bengaluru South taluk that claimed seven lives, Kumaraswamy said it was deeply distressing that such incidents continued despite repeated warnings.

In a post on social media platform X, the Union minister urged the state government to strictly enforce safety norms at quarries and ensure continuous monitoring by the departments concerned.

“Despite recurring quarry tragedies in the state, no action has been been taken against those responsible. That is why such incidents continue to recur,” Kumaraswamy said.

He also called on quarry owners to comply with all prescribed safety measures and take adequate precautions to protect workers.

Demanding immediate relief for the victims’ families, Kumaraswamy urged the state government to announce appropriate compensation and extend all necessary emergency assistance to those injured in the incident.

The quarry collapse near Madapatna village in Bengaluru South taluk killed seven workers and left five others seriously injured, prompting renewed concerns over safety standards in Karnataka’s mining and quarrying sector.
