New Delhi: Fuel prices were raised once again across the country on Sunday, marking the fourth hike in just 11 days and adding to the burden on consumers.

Petrol prices have been increased by Rs 2.61 per litre, while diesel rates have gone up by Rs 2.71 per litre with immediate effect. Since the latest round of revisions began on May 15, fuel prices have risen by nearly Rs 7.50 per litre overall.

In the national capital, petrol is now priced at Rs 102.12 per litre and diesel at Rs 95.20. In Bengaluru, petrol costs Rs 110.93 per litre, while diesel is priced at Rs 95.99.

Among other metro cities, petrol prices stand at Rs 113.51 in Kolkata, Rs 111.21 in Mumbai and Rs 107.77 in Chennai. Diesel prices in these cities are Rs 99.82, Rs 97.83 and Rs 99.55 respectively.

Officials attributed the continued rise in fuel prices to higher global crude oil rates, the weakening rupee and escalating geopolitical tensions in West Asia.

According to officials from Oil and Natural Gas Corporation and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz have added pressure on global fuel supplies.

India imports nearly 85% of its crude oil requirements, making domestic fuel prices highly sensitive to fluctuations in international markets, officials said.
