R Ashok alleges guarantee panel members behind Griha Lakshmi irregularities
Bengaluru: Leader of the Opposition in the Karnataka Assembly R. Ashok on Thursday intensified his attack on the state government over alleged irregularities in the Griha Lakshmi Scheme, claiming that members of the guarantee implementation committee were the masterminds behind the discrepancies.
Ashok alleged that crores of rupees had been transferred to thousands of fraudulent beneficiaries under the flagship welfare scheme. He questioned the government’s oversight mechanisms and demanded accountability for the alleged misuse of public funds.
“The government has failed to prevent large-scale irregularities in the Griha Lakshmi Scheme. Huge amounts have been credited to fake accounts, exposing serious lapses in implementation,” he alleged.

The BJP leader also criticised the government for spending nearly Rs 150 crore on guarantee implementation committees, calling the expenditure unnecessary and unjustified.
Taking aim at the government’s recent move to seek fresh applications from beneficiaries, Ashok described it as an admission of failure. “The process of reapplying for guarantees itself shows that there are major flaws in the system,” he said.
Claiming that confusion surrounded the Congress government’s flagship welfare programmes, Ashok said the alleged irregularities had raised serious questions about the transparency and effectiveness of the guarantee schemes.
