Uniform Code of Practices, Common Value-Based Education Initiatives Launched in Sringeri
Sringeri: Identifying common values across India’s religious traditions and developing a uniform code of practices and value-based education system have become an urgent necessity, said MLC Dr Ravi C.T. at the launch of two initiatives in Sringeri.
The initiatives — the Uniform Code of Practices (UCP) and Uniform Common Value-Based Education (UCVE) — were launched under the aegis of the Bharatiya Santa Maha Parishad (Council of Indian Saints) at the Sri Bharati Tirtha Shastra Samutkarsha Kendra, located within the Sanskrit University in Sringeri.
The programmes seek to develop an educational framework encompassing ethics, philosophy, religious values and collective welfare, drawing on common principles found in Hindu, Jain, Buddhist and Sikh traditions. Ravi said the effort was important not only for preserving Indian culture but also for addressing global challenges.

Drawing a parallel with Adi Shankaracharya’s efforts towards religious revival, he said there was a need to organise religious practices and value-based education in a manner suited to contemporary requirements.
He emphasised that identifying shared values across diverse traditions could strengthen social harmony and prevent differences from being used to create divisions. He also stated that the fundamental principles of Sanatana Dharma did not advocate untouchability.
Describing the initiative as a historic step, Ravi commended those involved in bringing heads of different religious institutions, known as Mathadhipatis, and religious leaders onto a common platform.
The event was attended by Sri Vidhushekhara Bharati Mahaswamigal, Sri Prasanna Renuka Veerasomeshwara Mahaswamigal and Sri Dr Nirmalanandanatha Mahaswamigal, along with other religious leaders, scholars and distinguished guests.
