BENGALURU: A BJP protest demanding the resignation of minister B Nagendra over the alleged Valmiki Development Corporation fund transfer case turned tense near Vikas Soudha in Bengaluru on Sunday.
BJP leaders and workers attempted to march towards Vidhana Soudha, prompting police to intervene and prevent them from proceeding. Leader of Opposition R Ashoka, state BJP president B Y Vijayendra, MLCs C T Ravi and N Ravikumar and several other party workers were detained.
The protesters staged a sit-in on the road near the Vikas Soudha gate, raising slogans demanding Nagendra’s resignation and criticising the state government.
Tension briefly escalated when police attempted to clear the protesters, leading to arguments between the two sides. The detained BJP leaders and workers were subsequently taken to the High Grounds police station.
The BJP has been demanding Nagendra’s resignation in connection with the alleged illegal transfer of funds from the Karnataka Maharshi Valmiki Scheduled Tribes Development Corporation.
The party has accused the state government of shielding the minister and vowed to intensify its agitation until Nagendra steps down.
The latest protest comes amid the BJP’s continued campaign over the alleged financial irregularities, with the Opposition seeking accountability and further investigation into the case.
