Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala BJP leaders have demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation probe into the alleged Sabarimala gold scam and sought the unconditional withdrawal of cases filed against devotees during the Sabarimala agitation.

The BJP said a detailed investigation should be conducted into the role of former Travancore Devaswom Board officials, senior bureaucrats and former ministers. The party also demanded a probe into the alleged links of the main accused, Unnikrishnan Potti.

According to the party, BJP Kerala president Rajeev Chandrasekhar and senior leaders V. Muraleedharan and B. B. Gopakumar have jointly written to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan seeking immediate action.

The BJP alleged that 29,119 people were made accused in 2,624 cases registered during the Sabarimala women’s entry protests across Kerala.

The party criticised the government’s move to withdraw only non-serious cases, calling it politically motivated, and claimed that many devotees were falsely implicated during the agitation linked to Sabarimala Sree Ayyappa Temple.
