Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and actor Vijay on Thursday participated in a 6-km anti-drug awareness marathon in Chennai, marking the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
The event, titled ‘Start Run, Stop Drugs’, was organised to spread awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse and encourage youth to stay away from narcotics.
Unlike the customary practice of merely flagging off such events, Vijay joined hundreds of participants and completed the entire 6-km run, drawing widespread attention and appreciation from the public.
The chief minister ran alongside citizens, particularly young people, many of whom were seen attempting to take selfies with him during the event. His participation was widely viewed as a symbolic gesture aimed at reinforcing the government’s message against drug abuse.
Addressing participants after the run, Vijay reiterated the importance of creating a drug-free society and urged youngsters to focus on education, health and constructive activities.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, youth groups and members of the public. Vijay’s decision to personally take part in the marathon was praised by supporters, who described it as a strong message in support of the fight against drugs and efforts to safeguard the future of Tamil Nadu’s youth.
