Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar flagged off the 2026-27 season of the luxury tourist train Golden Chariot at Krantivira Sangolli Rayanna Railway Station on Saturday, aiming to showcase the state’s rich heritage, diverse culture, wildlife and natural beauty to domestic and international tourists.

Tourism Minister K.J. George was present at the flag-off ceremony. The season’s inaugural journey, titled Pride of Karnataka, is fully booked, with 75 tourists set to explore the state’s historical landmarks, wildlife destinations, scenic landscapes and cultural attractions.

A total of 13 journeys have been scheduled for the 2026-27 season, as the state seeks to strengthen its presence in the global luxury tourism segment.

The initiative is part of the government’s efforts to position Karnataka as a leading international tourist destination by highlighting its historical legacy, cultural diversity and natural attractions.

Shivakumar said the government was committed to accelerating economic growth through tourism while creating employment opportunities for local communities. The luxury train is expected to help present Karnataka’s tourism potential to a wider global audience.
