Heavy Rain Alert in K’taka: Red Alert for Coastal Districts
Bengaluru: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued multiple weather alerts across Karnataka as the southwest monsoon gains strength, with heavy rainfall expected in coastal, Malnad and several interior districts over the coming days.
A red alert has been issued for Udupi, Dakshina Kannada and Uttara Kannada districts from July 5 to 7, warning of extremely heavy rainfall exceeding 204.5 mm. Authorities have cautioned that intense showers could trigger flooding, rising river levels, waterlogging in low-lying areas and landslides in hilly regions.
An orange alert will remain in effect for the three coastal districts on July 3 and 4, with forecasts of heavy to very heavy rainfall.

Meanwhile, a yellow alert has been issued for several districts in north and south interior Karnataka, including Bengaluru, Mysuru, Hassan, Shivamogga and Chikkamagaluru, where moderate to heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms is likely during the first week of July.
The IMD has advised residents to remain vigilant, avoid unnecessary travel to vulnerable areas and follow official advisories. Disaster management authorities have also urged people living in landslide-prone and low-lying regions to take necessary precautions.
