Malappuram explosives case: NIA raids across Kerala, TN and Karnataka; digital devices seized

New Delhi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Saturday carried out coordinated searches across Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka in connection with the seizure of a massive cache of explosives in Kerala’s Malappuram district.

Officials said searches were conducted at 19 locations linked to the accused, as well as premises of explosives dealers and manufacturers. During the operation, investigators seized several digital devices, documents and other incriminating materials.

The case pertains to the recovery of a large quantity of explosives from a lorry parked at the premises of Farha Hollow Bricks Company on the Chemmad–Talappara road in Malappuram district. The stockpile was detected after a routine inspection by local police.

According to officials, the seizure included around 89,600 gelatin sticks packed in 448 boxes and 10,500 non-electric detonators in 35 boxes.

So far, six accused have been arrested in the case. The probe was officially handed over to the NIA in April 2026.
