Dharwad: Three minor boys drowned in a lake near Singanahalli village in Dharwad taluk after reportedly venturing into deep water while swimming to escape the summer heat.
The deceased have been identified as brothers Abbas Vatnal (12) and Aslam Vatnal (10), both residents of Singanahalli, and Subhani Bagojikoppa (10) from Bailahongala in Belagavi district.
According to preliminary reports, the boys had entered the lake for a swim when they were trapped in a deeper section of the water body and drowned. Local residents alerted authorities after the incident.
Fire and emergency services personnel rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation. The bodies of the three children were later recovered from the lake.
Gunjan Arya, Superintendent of Police of Dharwad district, visited the scene and reviewed the situation. Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the incident.
The tragedy has cast a pall of gloom over Singanahalli village and the surrounding area, with residents mourning the loss of the three young boys.
