D.K. Shivakumar to be sworn in as Karnataka CM on June 3
Bengaluru: Senior Congress leader D. K. Shivakumar will be sworn in as the new Chief Minister of Karnataka on June 3 after being unanimously elected leader of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP).
The decision was taken at a CLP meeting held at Vidhana Soudha on Saturday. Following the meeting, Shivakumar, accompanied by senior Congress leaders, met Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot and staked claim to form the government.
The Governor subsequently invited Shivakumar to form the government, citing the support of a majority of legislators. An official communication from Raj Bhavan stated that the swearing-in ceremony will be held at 4.05 pm on June 3 at the Glass House in Lok Bhavan, where Shivakumar and his council of ministers will take the oath of office.
Confirming the development, K. C. Venugopal said the transition of leadership had taken place smoothly under the guidance of the Congress high command.
Venugopal also praised outgoing Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for respecting the party’s decision and extending support to the new leadership. He expressed confidence that the Congress would remain united under Shivakumar’s leadership and work towards returning to power in the 2028 Assembly elections.
With Shivakumar set to take charge, Karnataka is poised to enter a new political phase under a fresh Congress leadership.
