Bengaluru: A political slugfest erupted in Karnataka on Friday as the BJP and the ruling Congress traded allegations over recruitment irregularities, with the Opposition targeting the state government over the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) recruitment process while the Congress countered by recalling the 2021 PSI recruitment scam during the previous BJP regime.

Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly R. Ashok questioned the Congress over its protests in Delhi against the alleged NEET question paper leak, alleging that the party was remaining silent on accusations of irregularities in KPSC recruitments in Karnataka.

Ashok demanded a transparent and time-bound investigation into allegations of money-for-jobs in the recruitment of veterinary officers, claiming the state government must answer concerns raised by aspirants.

The Congress hit back, accusing the BJP of ignoring recruitment controversies that occurred during its tenure in office. Referring to the 2021 Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) recruitment scam, the ruling party alleged that several government recruitment processes had been marred by irregularities under the previous BJP government.

In a statement, the Congress also referred to controversies surrounding appointments to the KPSC during the BJP’s tenure, alleging that the Opposition lacked credibility on the issue of recruitment transparency.

On the allegations relating to the veterinary officer recruitment, the Congress said no accused would be spared if wrongdoing is established. It asserted that the investigation would be transparent, impartial and conducted in accordance with the law, and that legal action would be taken against those found guilty.

The allegations made by both the BJP and the Congress are part of an ongoing political exchange. Investigations into the veterinary officer recruitment case are underway, and no official findings have yet been announced.
