Bengaluru: Opposition leaders have held the Karnataka government responsible for the stone quarry collapse near Bengaluru that claimed seven lives, demanding a high-level investigation and adequate compensation for the families of the victims.

Leader of the Opposition R. Ashoka accused the government of negligence, administrative failure and poor enforcement of safety regulations, alleging that the tragedy could have been prevented with stricter oversight.

“The government has failed to protect the lives of workers. Strict safety norms must be enforced at all quarries across the state to prevent such incidents from recurring,” Ashoka said.

Karnataka BJP president B.Y. Vijayendra also called for a comprehensive investigation into the incident. In a post on social media, he urged the government to identify those responsible and take stringent action.

He stressed the need for strict implementation of safety protocols at stone quarries and crusher units, saying worker safety should be treated as a top priority.

Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy expressed grief over the loss of lives and called for stronger enforcement of quarry safety norms. He urged quarry owners to strictly adhere to prescribed safety measures and appealed to the government to ensure such tragedies do not recur.

The opposition has also sought immediate compensation for the families of the deceased and comprehensive medical assistance for the injured workers.
